Till feb-29

The second half of Feb:

    In the second half of February I have learnt several new things and had some nice experiences that I can share with you all.

• Learnt how to create a Firefox extension. I created an extension that generates a TagCloud of words from a HTML page. You can get it from my project's page. 

          Friends, be careful while naming your extensions. I named my extension using letters of both the case and that turned out to be a problem. Atlast I was able to find that out and solved it.

• Refreshed Javascript topics as I was using it to build an extension.
• Heard of XUL (XML User Interface Language) for the very first time and was able to use it.
• Parsed an HTML page using DOM structure.
• Attended discussion sessions on Dynamic Websites and Portals.
• First the first time, came to know what a Portal is.
• Also got few tips on writing skills from Mr.Dorai.

 

Another thing that I would like to share with you is about the lunch with Mr.Dorai. It was unbelievable as we didnot expect one of our project mentors to have lunch with us. It was really a cool experience.

Feb 14,

   I started my first job on feb-01 at Congruent,Chennai. And for the last two weeks there, I participated in some beneficiary interactive sessions and in some purposeful discussions. It was a dream-come-true that i am working in a company. The change in the environment sounded good. At office, I have learnt few new things and worked with certain new libraries for the very first time. Let me share the new resources that I have been using for the last two weeks.

 

New Resources that I had worked with.

 

I was working on WordAnalyzer project and as I was passing through several iterations I came to know how HTML pages are to be parsed, and how a tagcloud can be generated.

 

During discussions on what projects to take, I thought that the scope my current thinking has to be  increased and  that  thinking high  is  necessary  to  achieve  success.

 

These two weeks,when I was working with my friends, I was able to spend my time with them in a more friendlier way than before. As the time went by I was able to build a good relationship.I was also able to sense certain new points in some of them that I had not known earlier.Also,I came to know the benefits of working together as a team.

 

After the first reveiw meeting with Mr.Dorai,one of our chief mentors, I have noticed that the following are necessary for a programmer

• Proper naming of the programs.
• As a beginner, quality counts more than speed.
• Optimization of code.
• Code should be clear,making comments is appreciated.
• Testing of code, both unit testing and testing on a whole is necessary.

 

 

Last thing that I would tell you is that Failures are the stepping stones to success and I observed this in my case.
